Keeping it fun: Donkey Hammer Head

Hammer Head Donkey Hook

Sometimes, it is good to let loose and get a little silly.
That is precisely what I did with this small project. Funny enough, I started making this hammerhead turned Donkey Head in 2018 as a warm-up project after having hernia surgery.

I was organizing the shop and going through my shelf of random oddities when I decided maybe it was time to turn him into something. So, the Donkey Hammer Head Wall Hook was born!

This little project was more complex than I had anticipated. When I first started making it, I forgot that it was hardened tool steel, so when I went to get at it with my forging hammer, my hammer came flying back at my face on the first startling strike! After a semi-tedious process of annealing the hammer head to make it malleable, I could work on transforming it into a donkey.

Fast-forward to August 2024, and I was inspired to make him into a wall hook. While I love art, functional art is my favorite form.
