I typically don't take on jobs that involve cutting something apart and turning it into something else; it's relatively labor intensive in more ways than one; you typically have to cut it all apart and (cutting wheels truly create the nastiest fumes and mess) the material usually needs a lot of clean up due old paint, rust, etc and almost always needs to be heated up and forged into straight, square material before you can get started. However, for whatever reason, I said yes to this project, and it was fun to make a great little side project. Taking parts someone had forged generations ago and re-forging them to accommodate a new purpose so they could live on is a cool concept to think about. I enjoyed watching these eventually become something completely different. I may take on more repurposing jobs, but I should first look into better respirators!
